After seeing the post on Twitter by @AdamBienkov I foolishly went along and RT’d it. On the face of it everyone should know about this shocking / fake / corrupt organisation pretending to be a caring and socially responsible endeavour. Then I started to doubt my actions since I question quite a lot of what I read on Twitter. I see a lot of back scratching and assumptions put up as fact that really should be questioned. In this instance I’m glad I did.
In Adam’s article (http://torytroll.blogspot.com/2010/02/who-are-national-bullying-helpline.html) he quotes the following information :
- They are 206 days overdue on registering their accounts.
- They have registered just £852 pounds in expenditure since they were established.
On the face of it, you might think that this isn’t really a trading company / charity and this further serves to undermine their objectives. Upon further investigation, I found that their accounts were in fact filed in August 2009 and the £852.00 in expenditure was actually their profit for their first year of trading i.e. 2006 / 07 and therefore 2 years out of date.
You shouldn’t believe everything you read until the facts have been checked. Today I am just as guilty as the rest however if the value of social networking sites is to be taken seriously, we all have an obligation to self manage and question the content.
